Great website! So well done. My mother and her family of Staubs
grew up in New Oxford. I spent many a summer there as a child and am thinking of looking
into housing rentals near the square or on it so I can move back. Your coffee shop is a
must for me. I lived in many cities and towns and a great coffee/tea shop is a must.

In addition to coloring with sidewalk chalk on Saturday, the kids could have their faces painted, have balloon animals made for them and be entertained by Sparkle Lynn, the clown.

The theme for the event was "America, the Beautiful." Olshanski said she chose that theme because it's generic enough for kids to interpret on their own.

Survey stops traffic

Pam Olshanski described New Oxford as Bedford Falls - the quaint hometown of the character George Bailey in "It's a Wonderful Life." The grassy circle in the middle of the intersection at the town square is exploding with green leaves and the red, white and blue of fluttering flags. A square of small-town shops wraps around it. All that betrays Olshanski's vision of the town is a snarl of traffic at the square, which is the intersection of Route 30 and the street named Hanover or Carlisle, depending on which way you are going.

It's not unusual for traffic to be backed up a half mile at the square in the afternoon. But, things were a little slower than usual for an hour Friday as Olshanski and other members of New Oxford's new Community Revitalization Committee stood at three of the entry points to the traffic circle, and conducted surveys with passing motorists. While it may have temporarily slowed down traffic - which was backed up nearly a mile at one point on Hanover Street - they hope it is for the benefit of pedestrians and the future of the community.

New Oxford Borough Council formed the committee in January. Council member Stan Wannop said the point of the committee is to seek ways to improve the town, and bring attention to its amenities.

Wannop said there are no concrete improvement plans yet. Some ideas include old-fashion lamp posts, repairing sidewalks, and running overhead wires in the square underground. But, they want community input first.

The committee members also handed out fliers, advertising a public meeting where they want to get as many ideas from the public as possible. A meeting is set for June 24 at 7 p.m. The location has yet to be announced.

From antique shops to historic buildings, committee members are proud of their town, and want it to be known as more than that traffic jam between work and home.

But, just as importantly, the intersection is a safety issue. "We want to get New Oxford back to a walking community," said Wannop. There are yield-to-pedestrian signs at the crosswalks, but that does not always help. "You can be out there and watch traffic, and see someone pushing a baby carriage, and having to run across the street," she said. "We want to create some awareness of pedestrian safety."

This little town of New Oxford is making some BIG changes! Our newest addition is this wonderful coffee shop! When you walk in, you instantly feel warmth and familiarity, like you're visiting an old friend. It's as though it has been a part of this town forever! And everything is delicious! From the coffee, cappucinos, mocha lattes, espressos, teas, hot cocoas, Italian sodas to the scrumptious pastries! Although it's a tough choice, my personal favorite is the homemade Coconut Cake.

It's also a Visitor's Center where you can see samples of different merchadise that some local merchants have to offer. But it's definitely not just for visitors! It seems to have become a local gathering place at times. I always see someone I know when I'm in there. We're so glad that Pam (the owner) had this vision for our town!

The New Oxford Coffee Co is a great place to meet /visit for an outstanding cup of coffee and some of the best sweet goods I have eaten in a long time.Service is good, people friendly and the surroundings are relaxing. We took our son and daughter in law to the store and they were impressed, this isn't easy as they live near DC and visit Starbucks on a regular basis, they felt that this establishment beats them by a mile. Keep up the good work this is a real plus for our town and community...!!

Thank you for your vision and hard work! And your welcoming smile!

Whenever I'm in Pa. (visiting my Mom who lives at Crosskeys Village), I'm sure to stop by as often as possible for your shop's appreciated friendly ambience in my second homebase. Your "beverage goddesses" remember by favorite brew, and often ask if I'm going to take a pastry to my 92-year-old uncle in York today. Even as I leave town for home, I've developed an "alternate route," so that I can hit the road with a large (decaf) chamomile tea with soy milk and several non-messy oatmeal cookies (that travel so well!) for the long drive home. Pam, you're a model for not just adopting your new locale, but helping to build your new community with an intelligent, generous, team spirit.

Further, in that arena, because of your volunteer efforts and vision, I know that Shining Stars Therapeutic Riding Ministry soon will be able, financially, to build an indoor riding ring and help many more people know the sense of joy and achievement that comes with visible and measurable accomplishments beyond their wildest dreams!

I grew up in New Oxford and in the past year have spent more time visiting my mom who still lives there. I now live in DC. I visit your shop every time I come in town. It gives me a chance to leisurely do e-mails and surf the net. (My mother's not in the 21st century yet. No cable. No internet.)

I am writing to inform you of my experience on Sat night 3/15. I arrived about 5:30. When I walked in the girl had three people in line. Two of them wanted cappuccinos. I plugged in my computer, set it up and was going to go to the counter at my leisure. When the girl was done, she walked over to me and apologized for the delay and asked me what I wanted. I ordered and picked it up from the counter. I was there for over an hour. Twice she came from behind the counter to check up on me and other customers. She chit-chatted with customers and when anyone entered she immediately greeted them with a big friendly hello. Her service was stellar. I hope all your employees are the same.

Prior to my current job (started six months ago,) I was general manager for a restaurant & bar in Rehoboth Beach, DE and then for a coffee shop and restaurant in Clarksville, MD. A total of 15 years as a GM. I make a point to commend good service whenever I encounter it. I know how important it is. Her friendliness and willingness to help were key. In addition, your shop is supper clean and neat.

My daughter and I love your coffee shop! As soon as we drive onto
route 30 and get anywhere near the new oxford square, she begins
telling me how thirsty she is. We can't pass through town without
stopping in :)
